My love affair with crystals began at age 8 with a family trip to the Grand Canyon. I was captivated by the variety of colors, textures, shapes, and energy I felt when holding them.
That “love at first sight” motivated me to learn as much as I could about crystals. Here we are 50 + years later and I am still seeing and hearing of more ways that crystals and their energy help make our lives better. Crystals have been used throughout history for everything from navigation to healing and today they are used in our day-to-day life to power our watches, cell phones, computers, microwave ovens and even for data storage; allow me to share a few more examples:
Viking fables tell of a magical stone that helped sailors pinpoint the sun even when it was veiled by dense clouds and fog. In 1967, the Danish archaeologist Thorkild Ramskou was able to show that these fabled stones were actually crystals—possibly cordierite or Iceland spar—that act as natural polarizing filters.
The healing uses of crystals are documented as far back as 1500 B.C. in the Ebers Papyrus from Egypt.
The Mayans used the power of crystals for healing on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. They also used crystals to diagnose diseases.
The Bible mentions the use of crystals 200 times. God gave Moses specific instructions on how to fashion the gemstone breastplate for the high priest, Aaron, to help him spiritually discern answers to the people's questions that he asked God while praying in the tabernacle.
The Vedas, sacred texts in Hinduism that are over 5,000 years old, thoroughly discuss the power of crystals and their uses for healing. The Vedas prescribe specific crystals for certain ailments and describe the properties and powers of different crystals. This has been carried over into today’s Gem Therapy practices.
People today continue to use crystals to enhance their spiritual knowledge, connect with the earth’s energies, and aid in physical and emotional healing.
